Dance by Honda Shōryū

Honda Shōryū was born in 1951 in the Southern city of Kagoshima on the island of Kyushu. Graduated from Oita Prefectural Beppu Advanced Occupational School, Department of Bamboo Craft Art, he is admitted in 1978, and for the first time, to Japan Traditional Craft Art Exhibition, Western Division, and won the Prize in 1981.

After a few years of apprenticeship with the artist Kadota Niko, he created his own studio while continuing to participate and garner prizes at national exhibitions.

In 2000, he is Cotsen Bamboo Prize Finalist, and start a serial of collective or solo exhibitions in several American museums and galleries.

In 2018, he is one of the seven contemporary artists to be exhibited in "Fendre l'Air, Art du Bambou au Japon", at the musée du qual Branly-Jacques Chirac in Paris.

Since few years, he leaves and works in Matsumoto (Nagano Pref.) His works are part of many American and European public and private collections.
