Yufu Shohaku

The son of Yufu Chikuryu, Yufu Shohaku is a second-generation artist from Beppu. His father was the apprentice of Satō Chikuyūsai, who was Shōno Shōunsai's teacher. As a child and while still in primary school, his father instructed him in the basic techniques of the art, and the boy produced his first weavings for ikebana. He is well known today as an artist with a unique style who mixes the roots of various plants and fragments of giant bamboo with traditional weavings in his works. As an independent artist, he directs the professional association of bamboo artists and has been awarded a number of prizes.
