𝐈𝐧 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐚 𝐈𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐰𝐚 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐬-𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐢 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐞.
The Mingei gallery selected 13 works for the Mingei Bamboo Prize 2023. They were all exhibited during the Parcours des Mondes from September 5 to 10, 2023.
A jury selected young artist Jyunpei Hayashi as the winner of the prize. The public voted for the young artist Youna Ichikawa for the Parcours des Mondes-Mingei prize.
These two artists are part of the studio of Tanabe Chikuunsai IV, previous winner of the prize.

For 10 years, the Mingei Gallery has been defending the art of Japanese bamboo basketry and is now asserting itself as the first and almost unique European gallery of this specialty.
Coming from a long tradition of weaving bamboo, Japanese basketry has conquered in recent years an ever-increasing public of collectors, and has risen to the rank of acclaimed works of art, notably at the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac. during the exhibition “Fendre l’Air, Art du Bambou au Japon” (November 27, 2018 – April 7, 2019), organized by the Mingei gallery.
Sustaining the recognition of this art and encouraging contemporary creation are the main objectives of this annual prize that the Mingei Gallery proposes to organize. This prize is open to all Japanese artists, regardless of age, who mainly use bamboo as a medium. Artists may present themselves for the prize as many times as they wish.
